Customer Testimonial:
Mercer Company, Inc.
Franchisee of Arby’s Restaurant Group

Scott Mercer, CEO of Mercer Company, Inc., owner and operator of four Arby’s franchises in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, struggled for years to manage heating and air conditioning costs in his restaurants.  With numerous employees in each location, it was nearly impossible to control the temperature settings, and wild swings – from cold to hot, and vice versa – were the norm.

Mercer knew he needed to find a way to remotely manage the HVAC systems at his four restaurants, and after years of searching he discovered Proliphix’ NT 100 Series IP-Powered Thermostats.

Mercer’s Arby’s restaurants range in size from 2200 to 3600 square feet, and each has two, three or four rooftop HVAC units. The restaurants now use one Proliphix thermostat per rooftop unit, and the positive results have been both immediate and dramatic.  Mercer says, “I was able to completely remove local control of any kind and eliminate [temperature control] abuse. I utilize the schedule feature to reduce energy consumption before opening and after closing by only conditioning the air in the areas where employees are working. This has lowered our energy consumption and hence our utility bill.

“The NT100’s remote management capabilities have eliminated numerous problems: The alert feature has already notified us of abnormalities which indicated mechanical breakdown. By remotely checking the system status, we were able to pinpoint the problem area and have the particular HVAC unit(s) serviced, thus avoiding further damage to the unit(s).  Prior to installing Proliphix thermostats, this type of problem would sometimes go unnoticed for weeks because often, when one of three rooftop units went down, the remaining operational units would “mask” the problem by cycling more often to maintain the temperature in the problem zone. This resulted in excessive wear and tear on the operational units, and typically, costly repairs to the system in general.”

Mercer says that there is no doubt that Proliphix thermostats have reduced both utility and repair costs for his properties. He believes that the units will pay for themselves in cost savings and peace of mind.

Mercer says;

“I will never use traditional thermostats again.”
